Welcome to Woolgathering! This is a thrice-monthly magazine devoted to fiber arts, history, and original fiction. Think of it as a twenty-first century, one-woman response to antique and vintage fashion journals, and you won’t be far off! I have long been fascinated by these magazines and their eclecticism, and they are my inspiration for the form and structure of Woolgathering. Posts will be released three Saturdays a month, on the following schedule:
The First post of the month will be an in-depth article on crafting, and will most often include both a historical and practical component. This post will be what might be romantically referred to as a “Miscellany”. Some things to expect here: antique knitting patterns updated for modern knitters, deep-dives into antique fabrics, threads, yarns, and equipment, and editorials on the living tradition of fiber arts and crafts.
The Second post of the month will follow a long-term project of mine, which is to refresh my wardrobe with me-made garments. This will involve plenty of hand-sewing and knitting, as well as thoughts and tips on making your own clothes in the 21st century.
The Third post of the month will be original writing, most often fiction, but also occasionally poetry.
The First and Second posts of each month will be available to paid subscribers, while the Third post will be available to all.
Next week I will put out an introduction to the wardrobe project, which will be free to everyone as a taster!
I hope you enjoy Woolgathering. Thanks for joining me!
